Braided and coboundary monoidal categories
We discuss and compare the notions of braided and coboundary monoidal categories. Coboundary monoidal categories are analogues of braided monoidal categories in which the role of the braid group is replaced by the cactus group. We focus on the categories of representations of quantum groups and crystals and explain how while the former is a braided monoidal category, this structure does not pas...
متن کاملAn Alternative Description of Braided Monoidal Categories
We give an alternative presentation of braided monoidal categories. Instead of the usual associativity and braiding we have just one constraint (the b-structure). In the unital case, the coherence conditions for a b-structure are shown to be equivalent to the usual associativity, unit and braiding axioms. We also discuss the next dimensional version, that is, b-structures on bicategories. As an...
متن کاملWeak Hopf Monoids in Braided Monoidal Categories
We develop the theory of weak bimonoids in braided monoidal categories and show them to be quantum categories in a certain sense. Weak Hopf monoids are shown to be quantum groupoids. Each separable Frobenius monoid R leads to a weak Hopf monoid R ⊗ R.
متن کاملBraided Deformations of Monoidal Categories and Vassiliev Invariants
It is the purpose of this paper to provide an exposition of a cohomological deformation theory for braided monoidal categories, an exposition and proof of a very general theorem of the form “all quantum invariants are Vassiliev invariants,” and to relate to the existence of the Vassiliev invariants obtained via the theorem to the vanishing of obstructions in the deformation theory. Our deformat...
متن کاملPure Braid Subgroups of Braided Thompson’s Groups
We describe pure braided versions of Thompson’s group F . These groups, BF and B̂F , are subgroups of the braided versions of Thompson’s group V , introduced by Brin and Dehornoy. Unlike V , elements of F are order-preserving self-maps of the interval and we use pure braids together with elements of F thus preserving order. We define these groups and give normal forms for elements and describe i...
